Authentic
know-how Since 1818,
between tradition and modernity

For more than two centuries, our house has been making porcelain by perpetuating artisanal know-how. Although today our production process is increasingly automated thanks to the modernization of our production tool, PILLIVUYT porcelain is still manufactured using the same process and our factory remains one of the few to produce its own paste.

In this perpetual effort, the PILLIVUYT imprint reflects constantly renewed modernization. Also, our company remains attached to its origins without ever sinking into immobility or ceasing to be a human enterprise. This ability to make the link between tradition and the future is a key marker of our multi-award-winning porcelain factory and undoubtedly also one of the ingredients in the secret of its success. Our products come from 100% Made in France and behind the Pillivuyt stamp, there are two centuries of history written by the hands that caress and shape our porcelain.

Our house is labeled Living Heritage Company since 2009

Depositary of the incomparable know-how of French porcelain masters, PILLIVUYT has a rich history of over 200 years beginning in the heart of Berry on the banks of the canal of the same name. Our house perpetuates this ancestral and artisanal know-how through our trades and our collections, which have evolved according to traditions and uses but whose excellence has always been recognized.

Pillivuyt in the porcelain industry of the future

Our factory was selected as part of the France Relance plan, initiated by the State in 2020, and received decisive strategic support. This support allowed us to invest in a new cellular oven as well as in a new generation isostatic press, significantly strengthening the performance and reliability of our production tool.

We have also integrated cobotics solutions into our manufacturing chain. This innovative technology allows our operators to work in interaction with collaborative robots, improving both safety, workplace ergonomics and working conditions, while optimizing overall productivity.

OUR steps simplified
By PILLIVUYT manufacturing

The love for quality has always driven PILLIVUYT. Producing excellent porcelain in fact requires unparalleled care, whether in preparing the paste, shaping the pieces, enamelling or decorating. Our know-how is unique and each piece is the object of the attention of more than 10 of our artisans.

01.

The Clay Workshop

Clays, kaolins, felspath... are the various raw materials that will be used to make porcelain paste. Coming from 75% of French quarries and 25% from European quarries, dry materials are controlled, stored and transformed in our workshop, to obtain two types of paste used in the manufacture of our parts.

02.

The Shaping Atelier

3 types of processing existing at PILLIVUYT:
- Calibration for the manufacture of so-called revolution parts
- Traditional or pressure casting for the manufacture of parts with so-called complex shapes.
- Pressing for the manufacture of more refined shapes in large series.

03.

The First Firing

Our pieces undergo a meticulous initial firing at $980^\circ\text{C}$ for twenty hours. Known as the dégourdi or 'bisque' firing, this essential step hardens the clay, dehydrates the piece, and creates a perfectly porous surface—ensuring the glaze adheres flawlessly to form a diamond-hard finish.

04.

Enamelling WORKSHOP

To have a smooth and shiny appearance, each piece is dipped in an enamel bath. Enamelling by hand is a very elaborate technique that makes it possible to deposit as constant a thickness as possible on the surface of the piece.

05.

The Second Firing

The pieces then undergo a second firing, known as the Grand Feu, at at 1,400° C. for  twenty hours. This intense, high-heat process vitrifies the glaze and the porcelain body together, creating a non-porous surface that is as hygienic as it is enduring. The result is a glass-like fusion that offers unrivaled resistance to thermal shock and daily wear.

06.

Curation & Inspection

Every single piece of our production is meticulously checked by hand and selected according to our uncompromising quality standards. Our expert inspectors ensure that only the most flawless creations are worthy of the Pillivuyt signature, guaranteeing an unparalleled dining experience.

07.

The Décor Atelier

Stored in their 'blank' state, our porcelain pieces are either sold in their pure form or transformed within our Décor Atelier. Here, master artisans employ specialized techniques to elevate each creation, including delicate hand-painted filets, meticulous chromo decal application, and precise surface color spraying.

08.

The Final Firing & Curation

To permanently fix the decoration, the pieces undergo a final firing in our tunnel kilns. Depending on the design, this takes place either at a petit feu 900° C.,  or a grand feu 1230° C to perfectly fuse the colors to the glaze. Upon exiting the kiln, a final, rigorous inspection ensures that every piece meets the flawless Pillivuyt standard before being prepared for shipment.
